In 2008 Michael Jackson commissioned from rising artist Kehinde Wiley, who is known for his flashy portraits of African-American men and women, a portrait of himself. The work, titled Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II, was included in New York gallery Deitch Projects’ booth at Art Basel Miami Beach last week, where it sold to an unnamed collector for $175,000, according to Agence France-Presse.

Jshoes and MICA’s (Maryland Institute College of Art) half pair collaboration is a great contest that takes place every year where students select 5 half pairs of jshoes (single sample shoes that have no matches, used to develop the collections) to develop a piece that relates to the recession.
The students were instructed to use only the materials found on the shoes themselves and adhering products (thread, glue, etc.)

I try to keep it fashionable on BRG. I also like to keep it positive by supporting innovative Baltimoreans. I recently received an e-mail from a young Baltimore Banger named Desean asking me to help him “kick start” his business (run with 3 other young men), Speak Volumes Photography. First of all, can you say flattering? I did not know I had the power to kick start anyone’s business. Secondly, I checked out Desean’s photostream on Flickr and was really impressed. The young man has definitely got talent. Below are some of Desean’s photograph but definitely not his best. Check him out on Flickr to view more of his work: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmvdebo
